This week Rachel Platten released her new song Broken Glass. My favorite part from the lyrics is when she says:

“I’m gonna dance on broken glass
On broken glass
And I’m gonna make that ceiling crash
That ceiling crash.”

She’s speaking about the glass ceiling and how she’s going to overcome that obstacle. The English dictionary defines the glass ceiling as “an unofficially acknowledged barrier to advancement in a profession, especially affecting women and members of minorities.” There have been women who have successfully broken that glass ceiling and  gender barriers that come with it.  However, the  glass ceiling continues to be a barrier for many women in their professional careers.  Platten made this song as an anthem for us.  She wants women to use our voices and not listen to those negative thoughts we often hear in society.  This is a song about fighting and standing up for yourself.  It is our anthem to breaking those gender barriers.  What is your favorite lyrics from the song?

I’M ON A MISSION to raise the standard for how we TREAT EACH OTHER, how we Treat OURSELVES, AND HOW WE treat the world. Every time I look in the Mirror I’ll remind myself that I’m NOT alone, that I’m BEAUTIFUL, THAT MY voice matters, and that I Am Enough.

“Imagine if we obsessed about the things we loved about ourselves”

Social media sometimes makes us feel like we should look or be a certain way.  It may cause you to feel like you aren’t “perfect”,but you are.  Don’t try to be that person society wants you to be.  Being yourself makes you perfect because there is no one else in this world that can be you. You are unique for not being like anyone else. Everyday you can decide to love yourself for it.
